Windsong's The Fang of Zion Fang was the sole purpose for the development of Timberwolf Organics.
Fang was what was referred to as a 'hard keeper'. This is an animal that is difficult to feed, and consequently hard to gain and keep weight on. For the first couple of years, Fang often had to be hand fed, otherwise food would just sit in his dish, untouched or barely nibbled on for days. His lack of appetite was a cause for great concern. Several different brands of dog foods were ineffective since none of them really seemed to spike his appetite. Canned foods were added or substituted. They worked somewhat but only for a few days. He liked cooked prime rib, but even that he would only eat in very small amounts. Finally, a deal was made with a butcher to supply coarse ground beef, to which we added cooked oats or brown rice, fresh crushed blueberries and several other kinds of ground up fruits, yogurt or cottage cheese, cooked eggs occasionally and a variety of vegetable pulp, herbs, and oil.
At last, we watched Fang develop an appetite and finally he began to fill out, his coat began to bloom and he seemed a lot happier. Of course it was a significant chore preparing his meals on a daily basis, rarely ever convenient, and as with any raw meat products, the strictest standards of food safety and sanitation had to he adhered to in its preparation, and of course the appropriate levels of vitamins and minerals had to be added to the formula to ensure his diet was completely balanced.
From Fang's finicky appetite came the humble beginnings of what many people are today calling the finest dog food in the world.
Fang has since passed away and is still lamented daily, for nothing can ever fill his paw prints. Four of Fang's offspring still live at home at the Timberwolf Rural Settlement. All of Fang's progeny were raised for their first year on a raw diet such as the one developed for Fang. They are all healthy and strong with wonderfully colorful personalities in their own right. However, Fang was quite the exception. He had an extremely noble character. He could look at you and make you feel like a mere human in his presence. Other dogs seemed to tremble in reverence to him as he sauntered by. He was very laid back, had an uncanny intelligent human side, but did not suffer fools gladly and was generally aloof with those he deemed unworthy of his attention. But if he took a shine to you, it left you feeling extremely honored to have been recognized by this intensely regal animal.
God speed Fang, you are dearly missed by those you have left behind.
